Formulation development begins on injectable esters

An injectable in an oil carrier presents problems a laboratory does not meet elsewhere. The carrier is viscous, which affects filtration, filling accuracy and syringeability; it is not aqueous, which changes how sterility and endotoxin testing must be performed; and it must remain a clear single phase across the whole storage temperature range, not merely at ambient.

Development therefore runs formulation and analysis together. Trial compositions are assessed for clarity at low temperature, for stability of the active under thermal stress, and for compatibility with the glass and closure system, while methods are developed in parallel that can quantify degradation rather than only confirm assay.

Nothing is supplied commercially at this stage. The output is a formulation, a specification and a set of methods that a later manufacturing block could be qualified against.
