Testosterone Enanthate 250 mg/ml

Testosterone Enanthate is an oily liquid for injection. It contains testosterone, the male sex hormone that a man's body normally makes in the testicles. Here the testosterone is joined to a chemical chain called enanthate, which slows down how quickly it is released, so one injection keeps working for a week or more. Your doctor has prescribed it because your body does not make enough testosterone of its own, or for another reason they have explained to you.

Please read this section before your first injection, and tell your doctor if any of it applies to you.

Warnings and precautions

• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have heart failure, high blood pressure or swelling in your legs, because testosterone makes the body hold on to water and salt.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have diabetes. Your blood sugar may change and your diabetes medicines may need adjusting.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have epilepsy or bad migraines, as extra fluid in the body can make both worse.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have breathing pauses while you sleep, or if you snore heavily and wake up tired.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you are over 65, have prostate trouble, or find it difficult or slow to pass urine.
• +Because this form stays in your body for a long time, side effects can also take a while to settle after an injection is stopped. Your doctor will bear this in mind when planning your treatment.
• +You will need regular check-ups and blood tests: testosterone level, red blood cell count, cholesterol, liver tests and a prostate check. Please attend them.
• +This medicine contains a substance banned in sport. It will show up on a doping test, even with a prescription.

Other medicines and Testosterone Enanthate

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you take, including anything bought over the counter. Blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin matter most: testosterone can strengthen their effect and make bleeding or bruising more likely, so your doctor will check your clotting more often. Diabetes medicines, including insulin, may also need adjusting, because testosterone can lower your blood sugar. Mention steroid tablets such as prednisolone, which together with this medicine can cause more swelling in the ankles and feet.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

This medicine is not for women. It must never be used by a woman who is pregnant, might become pregnant, or is breastfeeding, because it can affect the development of the baby. If you are a man, remember that testosterone injections switch off your body's own production and reduce your sperm count, so you may become temporarily infertile. Tell your doctor before you start if you and your partner are planning a pregnancy, as there may be a better option for you.

Driving and using machines

Testosterone Enanthate is unlikely to affect your driving or your ability to use machines. If you feel dizzy, drowsy or unusually agitated after an injection, wait until this passes before driving.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. It is given as a slow, deep injection into a large muscle, usually the upper outer part of the buttock. It is normally given by a doctor or a nurse. It must never be injected into a vein. If you have been shown how to inject yourself, follow those instructions exactly and change the injection site every time. Because each injection lasts a long time, the gap between doses is measured in weeks, and your doctor decides how long that gap should be. If you miss your appointment, book another one as soon as you can. Never give yourself an extra injection to catch up. If too much has been given, contact your doctor.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Other possible side effects

• +Acne, especially on the back and shoulders, and greasy skin
• +Soreness, redness or a firm lump at the injection site
• +Fluid retention, so your ankles, feet or face look puffy
• +Trouble sleeping
• +Feeling irritable, restless or unusually emotional, and swings in mood
• +Headache
• +Increased sex drive and more frequent erections
• +Shrinking of the testicles and a lower sperm count
• +Swelling or tenderness under the nipples
• +Hair loss from the scalp, or more hair on the body and face
• +Higher blood pressure and weight gain
• +Blood test changes, including blood that is thicker than normal and less favourable cholesterol

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25 °C and keep the ampoules inside the outer carton so they are protected from light. Do not freeze. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton and the ampoule label; that date is the last day of the month printed. In cold weather the oil can look slightly thicker or show tiny crystals; do not use an ampoule if the liquid is cloudy, discoloured or contains particles, or if the glass is chipped. Do not throw medicines away in wastewater or household rubbish. Return unused ampoules, and used ampoules and needles, to your pharmacy for safe disposal.

The active ingredient is testosterone enanthate. Each 1 ml ampoule contains 250 mg of testosterone enanthate. The other ingredient is a sterile oil carrier in which the testosterone is dissolved. The medicine is a clear, pale yellow oily solution. It is supplied in single-use 1 ml glass ampoules, amber or clear, with 10 ampoules and this leaflet in each carton. Each carton is marked with a square GS1 DataMatrix barcode and a unique verification code, so the pack can be confirmed as genuine online.
