Nandrolone Phenylpropionate 100 mg/ml

Nandrolone Phenylpropionate 100 mg/ml is a solution for injection into a muscle. It contains nandrolone, a man-made substance closely related to testosterone, the male sex hormone that men's bodies make naturally. It is the shorter-acting form of nandrolone: it starts working within a few days and leaves the body faster, so it is given more often and in smaller amounts than the long-acting version, which makes it easier for your doctor to adjust or stop treatment. It is used to help the body build and keep muscle and body tissue in certain wasting conditions. This medicine is available on prescription only — your doctor has prescribed it for you personally and it must not be used by anyone else.

Some people must not be given this medicine at all, and others need checks and monitoring first — please read this section carefully and be honest with your doctor about your medical history.

Warnings and precautions

• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have heart trouble, high blood pressure or raised cholesterol, because this medicine can push blood pressure up, make your body hold water and worsen your cholesterol balance.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have liver or kidney problems, as fluid build-up and strain on the liver can become worse.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have diabetes — your blood sugar may fall and your diabetes medicines may need adjusting.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you are a man over 50, have a slow or difficult flow of urine, or have been told your prostate is enlarged; your doctor will check your prostate before and during treatment.
• +Talk to your doctor before using it if you have epilepsy, migraine, breathing pauses during sleep, or have ever suffered from depression, as these problems can worsen.
• +Because this is a short-acting form, you will need injections more often than with long-acting nandrolone. Frequent injections make soreness and hardened lumps at the injection site more likely, so change the site every time and tell your doctor if an area stays painful.
• +Your doctor will arrange regular blood tests, including blood counts, liver tests, cholesterol and — in men — prostate blood tests. This medicine also contains a substance banned in sport; tell your doctor if you compete in tested sport.

Other medicines and Nandrolone Phenylpropionate

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including those bought without a prescription and herbal remedies. Mention in particular blood-thinning medicines that prevent clots, such as warfarin, because this medicine strengthens their effect and can lead to bleeding, so you may need extra blood tests; medicines for diabetes, including insulin, because your blood sugar may drop; steroid tablets or injections such as prednisolone, which together with this medicine make your body hold more water and swell; and medicines processed by the liver, such as ciclosporin after a transplant.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are trying for a baby. It can seriously harm an unborn baby and can cause a female baby to be born with male features. Do not use it while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk. If you are a woman who could become pregnant, use reliable contraception throughout treatment. In men, this medicine lowers your body's own testosterone and reduces sperm production, so you may be temporarily unable to father a child. Because this is the short-acting form, the effect wears off within weeks of stopping rather than months, but recovery of sperm production can still take some time — talk to your doctor if you are planning a family.

Driving and using machines

This medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines. Even so, some people notice headaches, dizziness, poor sleep or changes in mood. If any of these affect you, do not drive or use tools or machines until you feel fully yourself again.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. It is given as an injection deep into a muscle — usually the buttock or thigh — by a doctor or nurse, and must never be injected into a vein. If your doctor has taught you to inject it yourself, use a fresh sterile needle and syringe each time, choose a different site from the one you used last time, and look at the liquid first to check it is clear and free of particles. Each ampoule is for one use only; throw away anything left in it. Because this short-acting medicine is given at fairly short intervals, missed doses are easy to make: if you miss one, contact your doctor for advice as soon as you can and never inject a double amount to catch up. If you think you have had too much, tell your doctor straight away.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Other possible side effects

• +acne and oily skin
• +soreness, redness, hardness or a lump where the injection was given — more likely because injections are given often
• +fluid build-up, giving swollen ankles, a puffy face or quick weight gain
• +in men, tender or swollen breast tissue
• +in men, reduced sex drive, difficulty getting an erection, smaller testicles and fewer sperm
• +in women, a deeper voice, extra facial or body hair, and periods that become irregular or stop (voice and hair changes may be permanent)
• +difficulty sleeping, headache, or feeling irritable or on edge
• +raised blood pressure
• +changes in blood test results, including cholesterol and liver tests

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25 °C, keep the ampoules inside the outer carton so light cannot reach them, and do not freeze. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date shown on the carton and on the ampoule; the date refers to the last day of that month. Do not use an ampoule if the liquid looks cloudy or discoloured, if you can see particles in it, or if the glass is chipped or cracked. Never put needles, syringes or medicines in your household bin or down the sink. Drop used needles straight into a sharps container, and hand unused medicine and full sharps containers to your pharmacist for safe disposal, which helps protect the environment.

The active substance is nandrolone phenylpropionate. Each 1 ml ampoule contains 100 mg of nandrolone phenylpropionate. The only other ingredient is a sterile oil carrier, which dissolves the active substance and releases it from the muscle over a few days. The medicine is a clear, oily, colourless to pale-yellow liquid in 1 ml single-use glass ampoules of amber or clear glass. Each carton holds 10 ampoules of 1 ml and this leaflet.
