Methenolone Enanthate 100 mg/ml

Methenolone Enanthate 100 mg/ml is a clear oily solution for injection into a muscle. It contains methenolone, a man-made copy of a male sex hormone of the kind men's bodies make naturally. It is one of the milder hormones of this family: it has a gentler masculinising effect than most, and it is not changed into the female hormone oestrogen in the body, so breast swelling and water retention are unlikely. The "enanthate" part is a slow-release form, so a single injection works gradually over about a week. Your doctor has prescribed it for you after considering the benefits and the risks in your situation.

Even though this is one of the gentler medicines of its type, there are situations in which it must not be used, and your doctor needs your full medical history first.

Warnings and precautions

• +Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you have a heart problem, high blood pressure, or raised cholesterol, because hormone treatment of this kind can worsen your cholesterol balance.
• +Tell your doctor if you have any prostate trouble, or if you are an older man. Your prostate will normally be examined before treatment starts and checked again during it.
• +Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, epilepsy or migraine, as these may need closer monitoring during treatment.
• +Your doctor will usually take blood tests before you start and at intervals afterwards, to check your blood count, cholesterol, liver and prostate. Keep these appointments even if you feel perfectly well.
• +Even at gentler strength, this medicine reduces the testosterone your own body makes, and it can lower your sperm count while you are using it.
• +This medicine is not for children or for adolescents who are still growing, as it can stop the bones reaching their full length.
• +Methenolone is prohibited in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency. If you take part in competitive sport at any level, tell your doctor, because tests can detect it long after the last injection.

Other medicines and Methenolone Enanthate

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicine, including anything bought without a prescription. It matters most for blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin, whose effect this injection can strengthen, raising the risk of bleeding and bruising; for diabetes medicines, including insulin, because your blood sugar may fall and your doses may need adjusting; and for steroid medicines of the cortisone type, such as prednisolone, which combined with this injection can cause the ankles and legs to swell.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or might become pregnant. It can harm an unborn baby, and a baby girl can be born with masculine changes. Do not use it while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk. Women should not use this medicine unless a specialist has decided there is no alternative, and effective contraception must be used. In men, it lowers sperm production while it is being used, which can make it harder to father a child; this usually improves over several months once treatment stops, but not always completely.

Driving and using machines

This medicine is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or to use tools and machines. If you do feel dizzy, get headaches, or sleep badly while on treatment, wait until those effects have passed before driving or operating machinery.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you, and check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. It is given as a deep injection into a muscle, usually the buttock or the thigh, by a doctor or nurse, or by yourself if you have been shown how. It must never be injected into a vein. Inject slowly, because the solution is oily, and use a different spot each time so the muscle is not irritated. Each ampoule is for one use only, and any solution left in it must be thrown away. If you miss a dose, do not inject an extra one to make up for it — ring your doctor, who will tell you when your next injection should be. If you think you have received too much, contact your doctor.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Other possible side effects

• +Oily skin and spots, though usually milder than with stronger hormones of this type
• +Some thinning of scalp hair, or a little more hair on the body and face
• +Pain, redness or a firm lump where the injection was given
• +Poor sleep, feeling restless or more irritable than usual
• +A change in sex drive, up or down
• +Smaller testicles and a reduced sperm count while treatment continues
• +Headache, or feeling your heart beating strongly
• +Changes in cholesterol seen on blood tests, and occasionally a small rise in blood pressure
• +Feeling sick, or mild stomach discomfort
• +Reporting of side effects: if you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25 °C, and do not freeze it. Leave the ampoules in the outer carton until they are used, so that they stay protected from light. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton and the ampoule; the expiry date is the last day of the month shown. Do not use an ampoule that is damaged, or whose contents look cloudy or contain visible particles. Do not put medicines into household waste or down the drain. Hand unused ampoules to your pharmacist, and place used ampoules and needles in a sharps bin. This helps protect the environment.

The active substance is methenolone enanthate. Each 1 ml ampoule contains 100 mg of methenolone enanthate. The other ingredient is a sterile oil carrier, which dissolves the active substance and lets it leave the muscle slowly. What it looks like and contents of the pack: a clear, pale yellow oily solution in a single-use 1 ml glass ampoule (Type I amber or transparent glass), flame-sealed under aseptic conditions.
