Clenbuterol Hydrochloride 40 mcg

Clenbuterol is a tablet that relaxes the muscle around the small airways in your lungs, so the airways open up and it becomes easier to breathe. It is used to relieve wheezing, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath in long-term breathing conditions. Your doctor has prescribed it for you as part of your treatment plan. It is a prescription-only medicine and must not be taken by anyone else.

This medicine affects the heart as well as the lungs, so your doctor needs to know about your heart and your other medicines before you start.

Warnings and precautions

• +Talk to your doctor before using clenbuterol if you have any heart problem, high blood pressure, angina or a history of an irregular heartbeat. Your heart rate and blood pressure may need to be checked.
• +Talk to your doctor before using clenbuterol if you have diabetes. This medicine can raise blood sugar, so you may need to test your sugar more often at first.
• +Talk to your doctor before using clenbuterol if you have an overactive thyroid gland, as your symptoms may become stronger.
• +Talk to your doctor if your breathing gets worse, or if you need your reliever inhaler more often than usual. This is a warning sign that your condition is not controlled, and your treatment needs to be reviewed rather than increased on your own.
• +Talk to your doctor before using clenbuterol if you have low potassium in your blood, or take water tablets (diuretics), as this medicine can lower potassium further and your blood may need testing.
• +Talk to your doctor before using clenbuterol if you have epilepsy or have ever had a fit.
• +This medicine is not a treatment for weight loss or for building muscle, and must never be used for that purpose. Doing so can cause dangerous heart rhythm problems.

Other medicines and Clenbuterol Hydrochloride

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including ones bought without a prescription, herbal products and supplements. It is especially important to mention beta-blockers (heart or blood pressure medicines whose names often end in -olol, and beta-blocker eye drops for glaucoma), because they work directly against clenbuterol; water tablets (diuretics) and steroid tablets, which together with clenbuterol can lower your potassium; digoxin for the heart; theophylline for breathing; diabetes medicines and insulin, because your blood sugar may change; some antidepressants; and thyroid medicines. Drinks and tablets that contain caffeine may make the shaking and fast heartbeat worse.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Clenbuterol relaxes muscle, including the muscle of the womb, and can slow down or delay labour, so it should not be used towards the end of pregnancy or during labour unless a doctor decides it is necessary. It is not known how much passes into breast milk, so your doctor will weigh the benefit against the risk. Tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Driving and using machines

Clenbuterol can make your hands shake, make you feel restless, dizzy or light-headed, and can make it hard to sleep. These effects are strongest in the first days of treatment. If you are affected, do not drive, cycle or use tools or machines until you feel steady and alert again.

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. It is a tablet that you swallow whole with a drink of water, with or without food. Your doctor decides the amount and how often to take it, and will usually start you low and review how you respond, so never increase it yourself. Do not take extra tablets if you feel breathless; use the reliever your doctor has given you for sudden attacks and seek help if it does not work. If you forget a tablet, take the next one at the usual time; do not take a double amount to make up for a forgotten one. If you take more tablets than you were told to, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital straight away, and take the pack with you, because too much can cause a dangerously fast or irregular heartbeat.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Other possible side effects

• +Shaking or trembling, especially of the hands
• +A fast heartbeat, or feeling your heart pound or flutter in your chest
• +Feeling restless, nervous or on edge
• +Muscle cramps, most often in the legs
• +Headache
• +Difficulty sleeping
• +Sweating more than usual
• +Feeling sick, or a dry mouth
• +Dizziness or feeling light-headed
• +A drop in the level of potassium in the blood, found on a blood test
• +A rise in blood sugar, which matters most if you have diabetes

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 30 degrees Celsius in the original pack, protected from light and moisture. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton and the blister foil; the expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not use the tablets if the blister is damaged or the tablets look broken or discoloured. Do not throw medicines away in your household waste or down the toilet. Take any medicine you no longer need back to your pharmacy for safe disposal. This helps protect the environment.

Each tablet contains clenbuterol hydrochloride as the active substance. The other ingredients are the fillers, binder and lubricant that form the tablet; the full list is printed on the carton. The tablets are plain, uncoated, white and round, and are supplied in blister strips inside a cardboard carton, in packs of 10 to 100 tablets. Not all pack sizes may be available in your country.
