Solvent recovery and effluent treatment upgraded
Ergopharm has upgraded solvent handling and effluent treatment at the Vadodara site, recovering process solvents for reuse and pre-treating aqueous effluent before discharge.
Solvent used in cleaning and in the laboratory is now recovered and redistilled where the recovered material can be qualified for its intended reuse, with virgin material reserved for uses where recovered solvent is not appropriate. Recovery is documented so that the origin of solvent used in any GMP operation is traceable.
“Recovered solvent is only cheaper if you can still say exactly what is in it.”
Aqueous effluent passes through on-site pre-treatment before discharge, with monitoring of the parameters relevant to the site's operations. Waste is segregated at source, and material carrying active pharmaceutical ingredient is handled through a separate stream.
The environment, health and safety framework is designed against ISO 14001 and ISO 45001; the site does not claim certification to either.
