Purified-water system commissioned
Ergopharm has commissioned a Purified Water generation and distribution system at its Advanced Research Centre in Tandalja, Vadodara. The installation provides a validated, continuously circulated utility that will supply the site's manufacturing, cleaning and analytical operations.
Purified Water is one of the foundational utilities in pharmaceutical manufacture. It is used in the preparation of oral-solid formulations, in the cleaning of product-contact equipment, and as feed to downstream processes. Because water quality directly influences the quality of every batch made against it, the system has been designed, installed and qualified as a controlled utility rather than a general services asset, with defined pre-treatment, purification and a continuously circulating distribution loop.
“A qualified, continuously circulated water system is the foundation on which every downstream process at the site is built.”
The generation train follows a conventional purification sequence appropriate to the incoming feed: pre-treatment to remove particulates and hardness, followed by the principal purification stage that reduces dissolved ionic and organic load to Purified Water specification. Treated water is held and circulated through a distribution loop kept in constant movement to discourage stagnation and microbial colonisation at points of use. Product-contact surfaces have been selected and finished to support routine cleaning and sanitisation.
Qualification has been carried out in stages, following the recognised Installation, Operational and Performance Qualification approach. Installation Qualification confirmed the system was built and documented as specified; Operational Qualification confirmed that pumps, controls and instrumentation perform across their intended ranges; and Performance Qualification is being completed through an extended sampling programme demonstrating that the system reliably delivers water of the required chemical and microbiological quality at every user point over time.
Routine control rests on a defined sampling and monitoring regime, with each point of use scheduled for periodic chemical and microbiological testing against pre-set limits, and results recorded under the site's data-integrity practices. Establishing a qualified Purified Water supply is a prerequisite for the commissioning of downstream oral-solid and cleaning operations, and provides a stable, traceable utility base as the Vadodara site's capabilities are brought progressively into service.
