Aggregation to case and pallet implemented
Ergopharm has implemented full aggregation at the end of its packing line, linking each serialised carton to its shipping case and each case to its pallet, and recording the relationships as EPCIS events.
Aggregation is what makes serialisation usable in a warehouse. Without it, verifying a pallet means opening it; with it, scanning the pallet's SSCC label returns the cases it contains, and scanning a case returns the individual pack serials inside. Goods-in checks that would take hours become a scan.
“Aggregation is the difference between a serial number and a supply chain.”
The parent–child relationships are captured as EPCIS AggregationEvents alongside the ObjectEvents that commission each pack, giving a partner a single data model that describes what was made, what it was packed into, and when it shipped.
Where a case is opened and repacked, the aggregation is broken and rebuilt in the system rather than left stale — an unglamorous rule that determines whether the data can be trusted at all.
